YESI Mentors Inspire Students at Malowa and Lifidzi Secondary Schools
On Wednesday, 26 February 2025, the YESI Mentors team wrapped up the month on a high note by conducting two mentorship sessions at Malowa and Lifidzi CDSS in Salima District. The sessions attracted a total of 557 students: 349 at Malowa and 208 at Lifidzi.
Comprising nine university students and graduates, the YESI mentors used the platform to inspire and challenge secondary school students to work hard and aim high. By sharing their personal stories of resilience and determination, they demonstrated how dedication and smart choices can open doors to university education and beyond.

For many students, the session was a turning point. James Kachiwala, a Form 3 student at Malowa CDSS who aspires to study Mechanical Engineering at MUBAS, described the session as eye-opening.
“The insights shared on time management, academic excellence, and career guidance have given me a new perspective. I now understand how to align my daily activities and subject selection with my career ambitions,” James said.

At Lifidzi CDSS, Mr. Laurent Chirwa, speaking on behalf of the headteacher, commended the session, highlighting that students in rural areas like Lifidzi often lack role models who can inspire them to dream beyond their immediate surroundings. He noted that without exposure to individuals who have successfully navigated the path to higher education, many students struggle to envision a future beyond secondary school.
Furthermore, he emphasised that sessions like these help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world possibilities, giving students not only practical guidance but also the belief that success is within their reach.

Since 2017, YESI supports young people in Salima through tuition assistance and mentorship programs. The initiative is driven by the belief that education should not be limited by circumstance but empowered by opportunity.
Through mentorship and providing educational support, YESI continues to serve as a bridge between intellect and opportunity for students in rural secondary schools.
