YESI Leads Mentorship Panel at Salima SCOM Easter Conference

On Friday, 3 April 2026, the Youth Empowerment and Support Initiative (YESI) led a mentorship panel at the 2026 Salima SCOM Easter Conference held at Cornerstone Christian High School in Salima.
The session brought together seven mentors, including current university students and graduates from different academic backgrounds across Malawi. This diversity allowed for wide-ranging discussions on career pathways, academic excellence, faith, peer pressure, and life choices.
One of the key moments of the session came when Eluness Simwela, a fourth-year medical student at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, shared her personal journey of determination and focus. She reflected on how she pursued her childhood dream of studying Medicine and encouraged students to remain committed to their goals despite challenges. Her story resonated with many learners who saw reflections of their own aspirations in her experience.
Speaking at the event, Salima SCOM Chairperson Ishmael Adam expressed appreciation for the partnership with YESI. He highlighted the importance of exposing students to mentors who have navigated similar academic and personal journeys, noting that such interactions provide both motivation and practical guidance.

Following the panel discussion, YESI facilitated its signature interactive sessions, where students engaged in one-on-one conversations with mentors. Across these engagements, a common theme emerged: students expressed a strong desire to balance faith with academic excellence while making informed life choices.
The conference brought together 136 students from sixteen secondary schools across Salima District. Participants actively engaged in discussions, asked questions, and explored different academic and career pathways.
YESI remains committed to inspiring and empowering young people through education, mentorship, and meaningful engagement.
