A Seed in the Soil: The Birth of YESI

On the shores of Lake Malawi in Salima, where vibrant landscapes meet the warm embrace of its people, a powerful idea took root. It began as a whisper, a gentle breeze of inspiration that carried dreams of change and a better future. From this humble beginning, Youth Empowerment and Support Initiative blossomed into a remarkable organization dedicated to empowering the youth and fostering sustainable development.

The story begins with Samuel, a young man with an unyielding spirit and a deep love for his community. Growing up in a rural village, Samuel witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by the youth—limited access to education, lack of role models, scarce employment opportunities, and the overwhelming weight of poverty. Determined to make a difference, he embarked on a journey that would shape the destiny of countless lives.

Driven by his vision, Samuel sought out like-minded individuals who shared his passion for change. Together, they gathered in 2017, their hearts ablaze with hope and determination. Each person brought a unique skill set and unwavering commitment to the cause. This eclectic mix of pioneers formed the core of YESI Malawi’s founding team.

As the team huddled around a weathered wooden table, they forged a collective mission: to create a future where every young person in Malawi has access to quality education and the necessary support systems to excel academically, professionally, and personally. Their dream envisioned a society where youth are empowered, confident, and equipped with the skills and knowledge to become leaders and change agents.

Months of tireless work followed. The team rallied support from passionate individuals who believed in their cause. With every stride, the whispers of change grew louder, carrying their message across the vast plains and majestic mountains of Malawi.

Since that defining moment, YESI Malawi has grown steadily, spreading its roots deep into the communities it serves. Their educational initiatives have reached far and wide, enabling underprivileged youth to access quality education, scholarships, and mentorship.

YESI Malawi’s impact has transcended numbers and statistics; it has touched the very soul of the nation. The stories of transformed lives and empowered youth ripple through the country, inspiring others to believe in the power of their dreams.

Strategic Objectives

Promote access to quality education among young people as a vehicle for improved livelihoods, in line with our mission to empower underprivileged youth through education.
Provide job skills and leadership training to secondary school students, secondary school leavers, and tertiary students, aligning with our vision of equipping young individuals with the skills to excel academically and professionally.
Offer mentorship, guidance, and role-modeling to secondary students to enable them to realize their dreams, supporting our mission of empowering youth through mentorship programs.
Acquaint young people with knowledge and skills in the use of traditional and digital media for participation in development and democratic processes, aligning with our vision of youth empowerment and equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge.
Increase the capacity of YESI volunteers and staff in facilitation, presentation, communication, and program design and implementation, supporting our mission of providing quality education and mentorship through continuous capacity-building efforts.
Promote interaction and networking amongst young people of diverse backgrounds to enable the free sharing of ideas and innovations, in line with our vision of empowering youth and creating a society where they are confident and equipped to become leaders.
Provide a safe and controlled environment where young people can discuss and learn how to handle/address issues affecting the youth, supporting our mission of empowering underprivileged youth through mentorship and guidance.
Provide technical, vocational, and entrepreneurship skills, and career guidance to curb idleness among young people, aligning with our vision of equipping young individuals with the necessary support systems to excel academically, professionally, and personally.
