I’m Shafi Kaliyati, a 20-year-old student from Salima District currently pursuing my studies at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) – Bunda Campus. Thanks to the incredible support from Pothawira (Haven) Christians Mission Organization, which covers my education and living expenses.

I wanted to take a moment to share my inspiring journey with the Youth Empowerment and Support Initiative Malawi (YESI). Their mentorship played a pivotal role in shaping my path to LUANAR, a prestigious public university in Malawi.

In early 2023, YESI visited Pothawira, where I reside with fellow youth receiving educational support. The team motivated and mentored us on navigating our educational journeys. At that time, I was eagerly awaiting university applications but lacked the knowledge on the process and what career options are available.

After the YESI mentorship, armed with newfound knowledge, I strategically applied to public universities in Malawi through NCHE . A month later, I received the incredible news—I was accepted at LUANAR to study Human Science!

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Jack Nyirenda, one of the YESI mentors, who took a keen interest in my aspirations. He guided me on applying wisely, ensuring my choices were aligned with my passion.

Now, I’m proudly a First-year student pursuing my dreams thanks to YESI’s invaluable mentorship. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to YESI for empowering and supporting youth like me who, at one point, lacked the knowledge and guidance needed to achieve their goals.
